United Contemporary is thrilled to announce the representation of Toronto-based artist, Anahita Akhavan. The gallery will be presenting a solo exhibition of new work by Akhavan this March, 2022.
Through the thoughtful use of overlapping geometrical shapes and forms, Akhavan adopts the symbolism and ornamentation used in Islamic architecture, carpet weaving and tapestry, to create intricate and bold abstraction. Akhavan holds an MFA from the University of Saskatchewan and obtained her BFA from the University of Tehran, Iran. In 2021, the artist was awarded the RBC Newcomer Arts Award, and has exhibited extensively in Iran, Canada and the US.
