Chuck Beamish: Imperfect Silence
Mountains hold turbulence in suspension,
seizing the instant when opposing forces collide and linger unresolved,
held only within the enormity of a boundless sweep.
Against this stillness, roaring rapids create a dynamic stasis,
where constant motion and the resonant crash of water and rock carve
an electric sense of place and containment.
Motion held in pause,
forces in action without end or visible change.
Equilibrium becomes a negotiated balance,
where stability feels urgent, and rest trembles with unrelenting energy.
Having established a significant and ongoing artistic relationship with the landscapes of Northern Ontario, Chuck Beamish’s new body of work sees him turn his “en plein air” painting practice to the vastness of the Canadian Rockies and landscapes of British Columbia. In this new suite of paintings, Beamish responds to the energetic tension of this monumental landscape, capturing moments of immense power and contrasting stillness within the painted surface.
Drawing upon his profession as an architect, Beamish observes embedded geometries and trajectories while painting in the field, finding compositional order within the immersive enormity of his surroundings. Exhibited alongside several new works created within the more familiar terrain of Algonquin, Imperfect Silence exemplifies Beamish’s unquestionable appreciation and awe of the ever-changing Canadian landscape.
